What a fun weekend! My mom and I went to Idaho to visit Jamie for her 18th birthday. How can she be so old already? We flew to Salt Lake and rented a car to drive to Rexburg. We took Jamie to dinner, took her and some friends grocery shopping, and even took her to Idaho Falls to shop at Target (although Google maps sent us in the wrong direction so we never found Target). We ended up shopping at Fred Meyer instead. We even got her a granny cart so now she and her roommates can wheel their groceries home from the store. Although she did like when some nice boys offered them a ride home when they were loaded down with groceries the other day. Maybe that cart won't come in handy. The weather was cool and rainy which we enjoyed a lot. My mom bought an umbrella at Wal-mart because she couldn't find hers anywhere. It turns out that Jamie had it. When we took her to school she forgot to take her umbrella and we had this one in the van that we couldn't figure out who it belonged to so she kept it. It was kind of funny. We walked around the campus to show my mom the pretty garden areas and the temple. We shopped at the bookstore and enjoyed a yummy breakfast at the Flap Jack Shack. If you ever visit Rexburg it is definitely worth a trip there. Jamie also got her birthday present. An Ibanez acoustic/electric guitar. She is taking a guitar class and played some songs for us. She is playing nicely. She has wanted to learn for a long time and had a friend teach her a few things, but this class is different. The professor has created a way to play the melody and accompaniment at the same time so she is getting nice callouses on her fingers.
Saturday we brought Jamie and Marie with us to Salt Lake so they could visit Jessica Blackmer who is going to LDS Business College. We went to the mall (Jamie and Marie were having mall withdrawls) and then to a concert at the Tabernacle with the Utah All State Choir (700 high school students from all over the state) and a Snow College choir. What a wonderful performance! Sunday morning mom and I met my sister's mother-in-law at the Tabernacle for Music and the Spoken Word. We saw Utah's governor, Senator Orrin Hatch, Glen Beck and President Monson. The music was beautiful, of course. After the program was finished the governor presented the Choir with a certificate stating that 10/10 was now going to be known as Mormon Tabernacle Choir day. We said good bye to Jamie and Marie when they got a ride from a girl going back to Rexburg and then spent some time with Jess. We visited the Church History Museum and walked around Temple Square. It was so much fun to spend time with my mom and see that Jamie is having a great time at college.
